Painted using Acrylic and gel mediums, 24k Gold ink and silver leaf. This piece epitomizes the delicate structure of Islamic Illumination motifs dated back to the 15th and 16th century in the Middle East. The intricate Persian Border, inspired by manuscripts of the Quran creates a resonating contrast with the backdrop of an abstract, tumultuous sea. This piece was inspired by the story of Prophet Yunus in the Holy Quran. Surrounded by handmade 24k Gold ink is the Ayaat Karima, revealed to Prophet Yunus when he was trapped in the darkness of the sea, the darkness of the night.
لاَّ إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ أَنتَ سُبْحَـنَكَ إِنِّى كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّـلِمِينَ
Translation: “…There are none worthy of worship besides You. Glorified are You. Surely I am from the wrongdoers.” (21:87)
Spending half my life living on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, I have a particular love for the sea. It creates beauty and chaos in each turn of the tide. This piece carries with it the reminder of perseverance in harship, faith during calamity and devotion to God through pure supplication when the rest of the world becomes dark.
